A Guyanese Thanksgiving

Just a quick note

So I already wrote about the Jhandi I experienced, which is a traditional Hindu way to thank their gods, that they perform several times a year.

Thanksgiving is a Guyanese Christian  tradition to have family gather in thankfullness to God.

The food varies greatly depending on the family, ranging from a small snack to large meals – no traditional dishes like an American Thanksgiving.

It is traditionally done after a wake to thank God for life and is also done in recognition of other things they’re thankful for – a child born, new house, etc. There is singing, prayer, etc – based on the religion of the deceased in the case of a wake.
